A few weeks ago I watched a group of teenagers spin an entire fantasy universe out of a Discord server and a shared document. New characters appeared every hour, plot twists got voted up with emojis, and inside jokes turned into lore. It was alive and fun and completely unstable. By the end of the week nobody agreed on what had actually happened in that world. There was energy, but no canon.

Most AI storytelling tools today sit on the opposite end. They are great at helping you write a scene, not so great at remembering what should stay true across scenes, across days, across people. Ask them to continue a story with friends and an AI character and things drift. Details change, rules break, side characters vanish. Everyone is creating, but no one is sure what is real inside the world.

We think there is a missing layer here that we call a collaborative canon engine. Not a product category yet, just a useful concept. A canon engine is a shared, living source of truth for a story world. It remembers what should be stable, forgets the noise, and tracks how the universe changes as more people and more AI characters touch it. It lets a hundred authors and a swarm of models build together without the whole thing turning to nonsense.

Take a complex space, make it programmable, make it collaborative, and the data and behaviour that emerge become the foundation for durable products.

If we are right, the most important story platforms of the next decade will not ship as finished books or games. They will start as small shared spaces where AI lowers the barrier to entry and canon engines quietly keep the world coherent as communities push on it from every side. The founders who win here will not obsess over showing off their models. They will obsess over building places where people and characters can grow together on top of a shared, evolving canon. That is the kind of bet we want to make.
