Polygon Labs has announced the acquisition of Sequence, an early portfolio company from Fund I, along with Coinme to create the Open Money Stack: a unified solution to move money globally.
We first invested in Sequence in 2018 when it operated as Horizon Blockchain Games. At the time, the team was focused on enabling open, player-owned digital economies and building infrastructure that allowed developers to move beyond closed, walled-garden systems.
Even then, their core insight that ownership and value on the internet required new primitives and infrastructure was clear.
Today, Sequence has scaled to deliver enterprise-grade wallet, payments, and onchain data infrastructure used across major blockchain ecosystems, enabling applications and businesses to move value seamlessly without exposing users to underlying complexity. Sequence’s product-driven mindset was invaluable in making crypto’s utility accessible and paved the way for mainstream adoption.
With this acquisition, Sequence’s embedded wallets and cross-chain payments tools will be core components of Polygon’s Open Money Stack, alongside Coinme. The Open Money Stack will be a vertically integrated, regulated payments platform combining licensed fiat on- and off-ramps, wallet infrastructure, cross-chain orchestration, and blockchain settlement. All in effort to enable instant, reliable money movement for anyone, anywhere.
Sequence’s path, from Horizon to Polygon, reflects the value of a first-principles foundation at scale. The Two Small Fish team wants to extend a huge congratulations to Peter Kieltyka, Michael Sanders and the entire Sequence team.
We are honoured to have been a part of your journey.
